The Lindt Christmas Advent Calendar Competition

An ode to Chocolate

Ah chocolate, how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, after eating these Chocolate Éclairs;

When feeling out of sight, I simply need reach for you in a Chocolate Brownie.

I love thee to the level of this Chocolate Cake;

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for this Banana and Nutella Loaf;

I love thee purely, as only one can these Cranberry and White Chocolate Cookies.

I love thee with a baking passion put to good use

In my Pear and Chocolate Spring Rolls, and in every crack of these Chocolate Crackle Cookies.

I love thee with a love I found in this Chocolate Fondant.

Despite my lost figure, — I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! — and, because  I can choose,

I shall but always love you (and especially those Lindt Chocolate Balls) before any other..
Adoringly penned in the year 2013 by Sam

Today is the thirteenth day of the Lindt Advent Calendar and given my absolute adoration for all things chocolate (see badly written ode above) you will understand that I am beyond delighted to be hosting today’s Lindt Chocolate Hamper Giveaway.

      With the passing of Madiba last week, I am grateful that although I never met him but I got two opportunities to honour him while he was alive this year, by being part of a group of designers who created a quilt as a tribute to his life and designing and making a dress honouring him. Long live Madiba. Email:

    Actually I cannot name just one thing that I am feeling most grateful for this holiday season, because I have so many blessings. I have my health, a wonderful husband and two adorable cats, my parents is still alive and well, so are the rest of my family. Unfortunately I won’t be spending the Christmas holidays with me because I stay in Mpumalanga and they stay in Eastern Cape.

    But yes, I think that is my greatest blessing, that I still have my parents.

    I’m grateful for the gift of live, love and joy!! To awaken each morning to a new day, to have family and friends that care. I’m grateful that I can be a blessing to others when they are vulnerable and that’s all thanks to being a nurse. This is the season of giving and sharing, a season of blessings and most importantly a season to celebrate the birth of Christ! Eternally grateful that He died for our sins and we are redeemed!

    I am grateful for this holiday as I desperately need a break some time to compose and gather myself once again – I have had a challenging year and so have many out there and everyone’s story is not the same – compared to others mine is probably a pebble in the big ocean but the year has really been draining and challenging and to come out with a smile at the end of it is more than worth it – my husband went for a basic nasal op and everything went wrong (in a nutshell he is considered the walking dead) it was 3 weeks of hell but we are still getting over it and has taken a toll on both of us physically and emotionally testing period. The Almighty has really been there for us and brought us out of this ordeal but my body is physically changed and needs a shut down – going to use this holiday break for some good old fashioned shot eye really need it – to all hope you have a wonderful break and to whoever that wins congrats and hope you and your family njoy a sweet break 🙂

When their family isn’t there,I can be their family for that time being,I can be their helping hand. I hope I can give them something to be thankful for when I hand out a Lindt suprise to them.

    This holiday season I am most grateful for having CHOICES – the choice to decide what I’ll be making for supper, some do not have a choice on what they’ll be eating. The choice on what dessert to make for Christmas lunch, some do not know if they’ll even have anything to eat on that day. It’s these thoughtless everyday thoughts that actually mean so much more to somebody less fortunate. So I am most grateful and blessed to be able to have these sort of choices available to me and my family.

    There is so many things in life that I can be grateful to, but this year’s holiday season I am so grateful that after a few very, very “bad” years we as a family will have the opportunity to spend this holiday season together……at one stage I thought that we will not survive, but God is good and He showed us as a family that we must never fear when God is near, and that He would never put us through something unless He knew that we will come out stronger at the end. Therefore I am so grateful that God gave me and my family a second chance and that He never gave up on us!!!!!! So for the first time in years we will have a holiday season full of PEACE and LOVE……..Thank you God. xxxxxxx

    I’ve read through the stories on the blog, and then you realise how lucky you are that you are not in the same situation as others, and then you read the story of your own friend and you sit back and take her life for a moment in your hands. So many times I told my family that I do not know how she can still be so joyful and still keep the faith, because if all the stuff that happened to her must cross my road I would definitely not survive. In the past few years she went through “hell” , drugs nearly destroy the family and then on all of that her younger sister was murdered. Sanette you are in our prayers and I am so glad that things turn out for the good, and thank you for always be there for other people, putting yourself last so that other can come first. This is why I love you so much.
